The servers are down as I right this, but that's fine. I played the 2.0 patch's additions and loving it so far!
Survival mode is what it sounds like but with a few twists: You have finite HP and time and you have to beat each round as fast as you can to preserve or gain a bit with each win. Every 5 fights is a shimmering boss and their job is to eat as much of that time and life as they can. They're aggressive compared to the mobs in between with unique abilities. (Boss Vane has a gigantic shield he can't seem to run past, ha ha) You'll gain goodies based on the character you play and I have a feeling they're only given out after a full 100-win run. I'm only half-way through my first run and I'm already sweatin' at my dwindling timer.
If I wasn't such a RyuKen fangirl I'd probably have stopped playing SF6 last year and be all in on GBVSR. Despite playing slow Vane the movement feels snappy, I like the defensive choices. I like being able to run. Combos wierdly feel easier too? Their "Modern" controls are done right: you can still use any strength of specials by pressing the direction and two buttons instead of being gated to one and forced to use the motion for different strengths like in SF6. And there's no picking a control style either: everyone can use motions or the single press, keeping the stigma off since tournament players also will use the simple press when in a pinch.
So take a chance on GBVSR this week (or whenever you read this post!) There's a free version that rotates characters weekly and lets you stick with that or move on to buy the as-of-today-deep-discounted full game!
